P.J. Strickler utilizes his years of experience as a successful guitar teacher and performer to instruct guitar students of all ages (9 to 80+) and at levels in the San Fernando Valley, Conejo Valley, and Simi Valley areas. Students
Beginners
  Beginners learn all basic chords (major, minor, and dominant seventh) and the keys of C, G, D, A, and E. Melody music, rhythmic reading, and ear training, as well as basic music theory, are part of the beginner course. Beginners gain skills to be able to sight read unfamiliar pieces,
Intermediate
  Intermediate students learn advanced chording and rhythms, as well as both pick and finger styles. They learn scales in all twelve keys. Lead guitar arpeggios (pentatonic harmonic minor and blues), as well as scale modes (Dorian, Lydian, Mixolydian) are taught. Students are introduced to advanced music theory.
Experienced
  Instruction is designed for experienced musicians--including those playing publicly or professionally. Focus is on certain styles of music, chord substitution, and voicing, as well as performance skills as needed.

The Instructor
  P.J. Strickler, of P.J. n'  Company, teaches guitar at his students' residences in the San Fernando Valley and in the Thousand Oaks, Westlake Village, Newbury Park, and Simi Valley areas of Ventura County.

PJ studied weekly with E.C. "Duke" Miller for five years, while taking music classes at Los Angeles City College. Miller taught him to sight read and play jazz, pop, classical guitar styles. At his passing, Miller was head of the Studio and Classical Guitar Department at USC.

P.J. has played acoustic, nylon, steel, and 12-string guitar in folk, country and big band styles. He has also played tenor banjo, ukulele, and mandolin in orchestras. He has played rock (various styles), Latin music, ethnic, light jazz, and contemporary pop on electric guitar at numerous private engagements. In addition, he has played as a soloist. He has taught well-known artists, as well as amateur musicians for twenty-five years.
